Job Purpose

As a Senior Engineer for Automation and Scheduling, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting the SARS Workload Automation Scheduling system using BMC Control-M. You will work with various department owners to configure and schedule production batch jobs across a large-scale infrastructure. Your role is critical in ensuring work processes are efficient, dependencies are understood, and production control policies are strictly followed.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Option 1: A National Diploma or Degree (NQF 6) in Information Technology plus 3 to 4 years of experience in a BMC Control-M environment (with 1 to 2 years at a specialist level).
  • Option 2: A Senior Certificate (NQF 4) plus 6 years of experience in a BMC Control-M environment (with 1 to 2 years at a specialist level).

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence:

  • Analyze, code, and schedule complex production job requests.
  • Convert and migrate existing schedules into the BMC Control-M system.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve job issues to ensure successful completion of automated tasks.
  • Provide technical support and participate in after-hours standby rotations.
  • Identify risks and provide recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.

Collaboration & Strategy:

  • Advise development teams on the correct sequencing of tasks.
  • Work with business owners to design automation solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with peers and third-party partners.
  • Present findings and progress reports to various levels of management.

Governance & Quality:

  • Ensure all work complies with internal policies, legal standards, and best practices.
  • Monitor internal processes to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Conduct inspections to verify adherence to standard operating procedures.
