The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is responsible for managing and protecting South Africa’s environment and natural resources. Our work is guided by the Constitution, ensuring that everyone has the right to a healthy environment.

Job Overview

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, or a related field recognized by SAQA.
  • At least two years of experience in forestry or a related environmental field.
  • A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel as required.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:

  • Legislation: Familiarity with the National Forests Act, National Veld and Forest Fires Act, NEMA, NEMBA, CARA, and the Protected Areas Act.
  • Administration: Knowledge of the Public Service Act, PFMA, and Treasury Regulations.
  • Technical: Understanding of the forest and environmental management sector and the PCI&S management framework.
  • Management: Experience in people management, financial management, and project coordination.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and facilitation.
  • Personal Attributes: Ability to handle conflict, organize effectively, work under pressure, and work well both independently and in a team.
