Senior Librarian – Strand Library
The City of Cape Town is looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Librarian to join our team at the Strand Library. As South Africa’s oldest city and a major economic hub, the City of Cape Town is committed to providing excellent service and clear communication to all our residents.
Role Overview
In this position, you will oversee library operations, manage staff, and ensure that our community has access to high-quality information and literature. This is a full-time role located in the Western Cape.
Key Requirements
- Education: A 4-year post-matric qualification in Library and Information Science (such as B.Bibl, B.LIS, B.Tech, B.Inf Hons, or PGDip LIS).
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a public library environment, including previous supervisory or management experience.
- Professional Membership: Must hold a valid LIASA membership.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and general computer use.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of librarianship, including collection development, reference work, and information retrieval.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership abilities, initiative, and the ability to adapt to changing needs.

Working Conditions
The successful candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and Saturdays on a roster basis.
