About the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA)

The AGSA is a constitutional body that supports democracy in South Africa. We are responsible for auditing and reporting on how the government spends public money, ensuring transparency and accountability across the country.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead our People Portfolio projects. In this role, you will find ways to improve our HR processes and design a better work experience for our employees. You will work closely with the Chief People Officer (CPO) to manage strategic projects, oversee consultants, and ensure our HR services meet the needs of our staff and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Help develop and implement the People Strategy to meet long-term business goals.
  • Provide expert advice to the Chief People Officer on strategic projects and portfolio performance.
  • Ensure all HR projects align with the organization’s overall mission.

Project Management

  • Lead HR projects from start to finish using professional project management methods.
  • Identify and manage risks, budgets, and resources for all strategic initiatives.
  • Track project progress and report on successes and challenges to senior management.
  • Set clear goals (KPIs) to measure the success of HR projects.

Employee Experience

  • Design and improve the “employee journey”—from the moment someone joins the AGSA to the day they leave.
  • Use feedback and research to create a workplace that encourages high performance and staff retention.
  • Work with HR partners to help staff through organizational changes.

Data and Technology

  • Use HR technology and data to make our processes faster and more efficient.
  • Monitor data quality and use insights to solve people-related issues.
  • Stay updated on digital trends that can improve how we work.

Team and Financial Management

  • Lead and coach your team to help them grow and perform at their best.
  • Manage the portfolio budget, ensuring all spending is responsible and follows internal rules.
  • Oversee contracts and relationships with external consultants.

Requirements

Education

  • A Post-graduate Degree in Human Resources or Business Management is required.
  • A Master’s Degree in a related field is a strong advantage.

Experience

  • At least 8 years of experience in HR or a People-focused environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience at a management level.
  • Experience in project management (either in the public or private sector) is highly preferred.

How to Apply

If you meet these requirements and are ready to contribute to a vital state institution, please submit your application through the AGSA careers portal. Please ensure your CV highlights your experience in project management and HR leadership.
