Senior Professional Officer: Electrical Engineering

The City of Cape Town is South Africa’s oldest city and its third-largest economic hub. We are currently seeking a skilled Senior Professional Officer to join our Electrical Engineering team.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A B.Eng or B.Sc. (Eng) degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy or Light Current).
  • Professional Registration: Must be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
  • Experience: 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in electrical systems. This includes the design and commissioning of Low Voltage (LV), Medium Voltage (MV), and High Voltage (HV) secondary and primary plant equipment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Extensive experience with electrical protection and control systems, distribution equipment, switchgear, transformers, and miniature substations. Knowledge of Process Control Systems is an advantage.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, and electrical protection software such as Dig Silent or Retic Master.
  • Project Management: Practical experience in managing projects and contracts.
  • General: A valid driver’s license is required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee the design and commissioning of electrical infrastructure. You will work extensively with distribution equipment and ensure that electrical protection and control systems operate effectively to support the City’s infrastructure needs.
