SARS is the national tax authority of South Africa. We are responsible for managing the country’s tax and customs systems. Our main mission is to collect national taxes and duties to help the nation grow and function efficiently.
Job Purpose
As a Senior Specialist in Business Integration, you will provide expert advice and technical support to ensure SARS software and systems are reliable and sustainable. Your role is to help translate business needs into technical solutions while minimizing risks and aligning with our enterprise architecture.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Option 1: A B.Tech in Computer Systems and 8–10 years of experience in an IBM Integration Software Development environment.
- Option 2: A relevant IT Qualification or Certification and 8–10 years of experience in an IBM Integration Software Development environment.
- Option 3: A Senior Certificate (Matric) and 15 years of experience in an IBM Integration Software Development environment.
*All options require at least 3–4 years of experience at a junior specialist level.
Key Responsibilities
Process Management
- Analyze and recommend improvements for systems and procedures.
- Identify technical problems and suggest effective solutions.
- Create reports based on business data to help with decision-making.
- Lead project planning and ensure software changes are handled correctly.
- Research and fix complex issues within the IT environment.
- Design and implement integration software in collaboration with other teams.
Governance and Finance
- Help manage risk by following compliance policies.
- Monitor costs and ensure financial controls are followed within your area.
People and Clients
- Share your technical knowledge and mentor others.
- Provide expert advice to both internal teams and external partners.
- Focus on providing excellent service to all stakeholders.
Competencies

Technical: You should have strong skills in application development, database design, system thinking, and IT reporting.
