Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • An LLB degree or a recognized 4-year legal qualification.
  • Admission as an Advocate or Attorney.
  • At least eight years of post-qualification experience in legal advisory or litigation.
  • Deep knowledge of Constitutional Law, Human Rights, and the South African Constitution.
  • Practical experience in drafting legislative Bills.
  • Strong understanding of the Public Service Act, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Treasury Regulations.
  • A postgraduate qualification is considered an advantage.

Primary Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing professional legal advice and written opinions to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government.
  • Drafting and updating provincial legislation and organizing provincial laws.
  • Preparing legal documents, including employment contracts, service level agreements (SLAs), and memoranda.
  • Reviewing provincial regulations, proclamations, and other legal documents.
  • Certifying internal department documents.
  • Contributing to policy formulation and providing feedback on national draft Bills and policies.
  • Managing legal risks within the Advisory Services department.
