About the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)
The WCED is responsible for early childhood development and school education throughout the Western Cape. Our mission is to improve literacy and mathematics skills, raise matriculation results, and ensure every child in our community has access to quality education.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated State Accountant to join our compliance team. In this role, you will help maintain financial integrity and ensure that our schools and administrative offices follow all necessary financial laws and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: A 3-year post-matric qualification (Degree or Diploma) in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in financial management and administration.
Required Knowledge
The successful candidate should be familiar with the following:
- Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and National Treasury Regulations.
- South African Schools Act and provincial education laws.
- Financial systems used in public schools and government administration.
- Budget preparation and monitoring processes.
- Modern governance and administrative practices.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills in at least two official languages of the Western Cape.
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to gather information, process complex data, and provide clear reports.
- Financial Administration: Strong numerical skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Technical Proficiency: High level of computer literacy and experience with financial software.
- Professionalism: Strong interpersonal skills, organizational planning, and the ability to present information clearly.
