About the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)

The WCED is responsible for managing early childhood, primary, and secondary education in the Western Cape. Our main goals are to improve literacy and mathematics skills, enhance matric results, and ensure every community has access to quality education.

Position Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated State Accountant to join our team in Worcester. This role focuses on ensuring financial compliance and providing administrative support within a financial management environment.

Key Requirements

  • Education: A 3-year post-matric qualification (National Diploma or Degree) in Finance, Accounting, or Auditing.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant administrative experience in financial management.
  • Legal Knowledge: A solid understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), the South African Schools Act, and the Constitution.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with National Treasury Regulations, school funding standards (NNSSF), and the Basic Financial System for Public Ordinary Schools.
  • Language: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer literacy and numerical calculations.
