State Accountant: Expenditure

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or Financial Management (NQF Level 6).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Expenditure or Financial Management.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Practical knowledge of government expenditure procedures, including the PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as Logis and BAS.
  • Strong computer literacy and a deep understanding of accounting procedures.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a professional team.
  • Previous experience in expenditure administration and management is highly advantageous.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Managing and administering the processing of all departmental payments.
  • Ensuring the safe keeping of payment vouchers and maintaining strict internal controls.
  • Liaising with suppliers regarding goods and services.
  • Providing leadership and management to junior staff members.
  • Identifying, establishing, and maintaining expenditure risk factors to ensure financial safety.
