Job Opportunity: State Accountant (Revenue and Bookkeeping)

The Mpumalanga Office of the Premier is committed to driving provincial integrated planning, improving government communication, and ensuring the effective coordination of policies and programs. We are currently seeking a professional and dedicated individual to join our team as a State Accountant for Revenue and Bookkeeping.

Position Overview

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or Financial Management (NQF Level 6).
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of practical experience in revenue management, bookkeeping, or financial accounting.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with the PFMA, financial directives, and government systems such as the Basic Accounting System (BAS), LOGIS, and PERSAL.
  • Skills: Strong computer literacy, excellent interpersonal communication, and the ability to work independently under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Recording and collecting revenue from various sources.
  • Managing departmental cash flow.
  • Providing professional debt management services.
  • Preparing essential financial documents, including revenue reports, ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, trial balances, and financial statements.
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during departmental reviews.

  • In-depth understanding of accounting procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage financial records accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
