About the Department

Role Overview

As a State Accountant for Revenue and Debt, you will be responsible for managing departmental finances, ensuring the recovery of debts, and maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with government regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the creation and recovery of departmental debts.
  • Reconcile collected revenue and outstanding debts.
  • Monitor revenue collection and ensure the safe handling of state funds.
  • Ensure all financial activities comply with revenue policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6) or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • A qualification in Financial Management is highly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • A valid driver’s license (this requirement may be waived for persons with disabilities).

Skills and Competencies

  • Financial Knowledge: Understanding of the PFMA (Public Finance Management Act), advanced financial management, and reporting procedures.
  • Leadership: Strategic thinking, project management, and the ability to manage change.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computers and analytical thinking.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on client service and negotiation.
