About the Position

Breede Valley Municipality is looking for a dedicated Superintendent for our Court Services section. The successful candidate will lead the team and coordinate all activities to ensure the court department operates efficiently and follows all legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, your primary duties will include:

  • System Management: Managing the Traffic Contravention Systems to ensure they work correctly.
  • Legal Oversight: Ensuring all legal notices and prosecutions follow the National Road Traffic Act, municipal bylaws, and other relevant laws.
  • Document Control: Managing court rolls, warrants of arrest, and fine notices (Section 341 and Section 56).
  • Financial Monitoring: Managing the section’s budget, controlling expenses, and identifying any financial variances.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervising and mentoring staff, monitoring performance, and helping team members reach their career goals.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Consulting with Public Prosecutors, Magistrates, and the Clerk of Court regarding legal guidelines and cases.
  • Public Assistance: Advising the public on traffic laws and processing written requests for fine reductions.
  • Reporting: Collecting and reporting statistical data, such as accident information, for management review.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • A National Traffic Diploma.
  • A Diploma in Metropolitan and Traffic Policing (NQF Level 6) or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including time spent in a supervisory role.
  • A valid Code B Driver’s License.
  • A clear criminal record.
  • Proficiency in MS Word.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
