Role Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant for a temporary contract ending in June 2026. This role is based in Port Elizabeth and focuses on managing general accounting functions, reducing financial risk, and ensuring all financial data is accurate and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports within set deadlines.
  • Review and verify payments, ensuring all documentation and approvals are in order.
  • Authorize payments on online banking platforms according to internal controls.
  • Manage and reconcile cash books and bank transactions.
  • Validate debit orders and ensure they are correctly allocated.
  • Process and verify commission paperwork and ensure calculations are correct.
  • Update and consolidate financial schedules and data.
  • Investigate and resolve financial queries professionally.
  • Capture and allocate payments accurately in the system.

Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric).
  • A Diploma or BCom degree in Accounting.
  • Proven experience using Pastel Accounting for daily processing and reconciliations.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar finance role.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and financial governance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
