Purpose of the Role
Assistant Teachers at SPARK Schools are developing educators who work closely with a mentor teacher. In this role, you will help plan and lead lessons, support student growth, and build your own teaching skills within our unique academic model.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction
- Co-plan and co-teach lessons both in person and through distance learning.
- Lead small group sessions to help students who need extra support or advanced challenges.
- Facilitate activities like coding, robotics, and school clubs.
- Use data and technology to help personalize learning for every student.
Student Support and Monitoring
- Track student progress and help manage “Personalised Learning Plans.”
- Assist students with educational software in the Innovation HUB.
- Supervise students during lunch, breaks, and after-school programs.
- Maintain a safe and positive school culture based on SPARK’s core values.
Administration and Professionalism
- Help with marking, data entry, and general classroom administration.
- Participate in professional development, coaching, and team meetings.
- Communicate professionally with families and colleagues.
- Attend required school events, including some Saturday activities and parent meetings.
Requirements
- Education: You must have a Matric certificate and currently be studying part-time for a B.Ed. or PGCE (3rd or 4th year) in the Intermediate or Senior Phase.
- Registration: Student SACE registration is required.
- Language: Fluency in English.
- Background: A clear criminal record is essential.
- Experience: Previous experience working with primary school children is preferred.
- Tech Skills: Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new educational technology.
