Job Opportunity: Testing Standards ATS
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is an agency of the Department of Transport. Established to ensure the safety and security of civil aviation, SACAA manages the regulations and standards that keep the South African skies safe.
Role Overview
The Testing Standards ATS officer is responsible for maintaining licensing standards and regulations for all Air Traffic Services (ATS) licenses. This role involves overseeing designated examiners and conducting audits of aviation training organizations to ensure they comply with the South African Civil Aviation Regulations and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Development
- Research and develop technical standards and regulations for aviation training.
- Ensure all regulations comply with international standards (ICAO Annex 1).
Operational Management and Oversight
- Conduct regular audits and inspections on training organizations to ensure compliance.
- Recommend safety improvements and enforcement measures when necessary.
- Review and approve training and procedure manuals.
- Monitor the activities of designated ATS examiners.
- Support the licensing department by assessing applications against legal requirements.
- Investigate and recommend actions regarding any deviations from safety standards.
Industry Support and Communication
- Act as a professional representative of SACAA when dealing with stakeholders.
- Work with the aviation industry to develop practical testing and training standards.
- Liaise with industry partners to solve problems and share knowledge to improve overall safety standards.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- An Air Traffic Control License with Aerodrome, Approach, or Area ratings.
- An Instructor rating issued in terms of Part 65 regulations.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Training Developer certification.
- Qualified Assessor.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Air Traffic Operations OR 3 to 5 years of experience as an ATS Instructor.
