Firing Floor Attendant

Reports to: Boiler Superintendent

Job Purpose

The Firing Floor Attendant is responsible for lighting and monitoring combustion in the boiler furnace, inspecting and clearing the boiler grate, performing routine checks on the ash system, bagasse feeding system and coal feeding system, clearing chokes, and conducting routine cleaning work. The role also involves reporting any defects or non‑conformance and ensuring all safety measures are followed.

Key Responsibilities

• Light and monitor combustion in the boiler furnace.
• Inspect and dump the boiler grate.
• Perform routine checks of the ash system, bagasse feeding system and coal feeding system; clear any chokes.
• Clear under‑grate chokes and carry out routine cleaning of the boiler operation area.
• Report defects and non‑conformance.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (or equivalent).
• ITC modules are an advantage.
• 2–3 years of experience working in boiler operations.

Personal Qualities

• Team player.
• Ability to work under pressure.
