Traffic Officer: Examiner for Driving Licence (2 Positions)

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) and a Diploma as an Examiner for Driving Licences.
  • Current registration and active status as an Examiner for Driving Licences.
  • Basic Traffic Officer Diploma.
  • Current registration and active status as a Traffic Officer.
  • At least 3 years of operational experience in the field.
  • A valid Code B driving licence.
  • No criminal record or any pending legal convictions.
  • A Diploma as an Examiner of Vehicles will be considered an added advantage.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in operating within a Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC).
  • Clear understanding of road traffic systems, practices, and safety principles.
  • Knowledge of road traffic management legislation and the transport sector.
  • Familiarity with the National Road Traffic Act, the Criminal Procedure Act, and other relevant traffic regulations.
  • Understanding of inter-governmental relations and operations.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Conducting tests for Learner’s and Driving Licences.
  • Processing renewals for Driving Licences and Professional Driving Permits (PrDPs).
  • Enforcing traffic laws and local by-laws on public roads.
  • Conducting vehicle inspections, point duty, and traffic control.
  • Issuing traffic fines and executing warrants of arrest.
  • Impounding vehicles that are unroadworthy, illegally parked, or abandoned.
  • Enforcing rules regarding pedestrian safety and violations.
  • Monitoring vehicle speeds and conducting overload control checks.
  • Managing cases involving drunken driving and moving violations.
  • Enforcing public transport laws.
  • Working with the SAPS to secure and record accident scenes.
  • Escorting VIPs, abnormal loads, and overseeing special events.
  • Managing crowd control and scholar patrols.
  • Maintaining accurate records of accidents and infringements, and providing evidence in court when necessary.
