Tutor/Training Officer: Commercial
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is seeking a skilled professional to join our team as a Tutor/Training Officer. As Africa’s leading commercial hub, Johannesburg relies on world-class infrastructure and emergency services. This role is essential in maintaining those standards by training the next generation of safety professionals.
Role Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to deliver high-quality theoretical and practical training. You will guide candidates through programs focused on fire safety, hazardous materials (hazmat), rescue operations, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate (or NQF level 4 equivalent).
- A Diploma in Fire Technology (Fire Services) or Safety Management.
- Fire Fighter I & II and Hazmat Awareness and Operations certifications (must be approved by IFSAC, QCTO, LGSETA, or City of Johannesburg EMS).
- Registration as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) with the HPCSA.
- A valid Code C driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Fire Service Instructor Level 1 certification.
- At least 6 years of operational experience working as a firefighter.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing new training courses.
- Manage and maintain academy resources and equipment.
- Ensure all training and operations comply with departmental policies.
- Lead classroom lectures, practical training sessions, and hospital-based experience.
- Oversee Professional Development Programs to ensure staff remain highly skilled.
- Respond to emergency incidents and perform special operations as needed.
- Engage with the public through education campaigns and community liaison.
- Identify and address ethical issues or conflicts of interest within the training environment.
